Ellen has over 14 years experience as a Hand Therapist working in the public health sector dealing primarily with post operative hand and upper limb rehabilitation. Most of this time was spent working in the busy Hand Therapy Unit at Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland – initially on site, and later at the Manukau Super Clinic when outpatient services moved off site to the Manukau facility. Other hospitals worked at were in Whangarei (Northland DHB) and in Hamilton (Waikato Hospital).

Ellen returned to New Zealand at the end of 2007 after working in a private hand therapy physiotherapy practice in Perth, Western Australia for one and half years.

Ellen has specialist splinting skills and many years of experience in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with a wide variety of hand conditions from major trauma and replants, to burns, rheumatoid joint replacements, nerve palsies and tendon lacerations.

In addition, Ellen is able to offer Acupuncture to hand patients since completing her Masters degree in 2004 in which she majored in both Hand & Upper Limb Therapy and Western Acupuncture.

She has been responsible for the teaching and mentoring of dozens of therapists rotating through the Hand Therapy Unit at Middlemore Hospital and Manukau Super Clinic, as well and providing supervision for hand therapists moving through the registration programme to become registered hand therapists through the NZAHT training programme.
